B i o g r a p h y

Professor Jing Chang is an accomplished pianist with an impressive international career. Her performances as both a soloist and chamber musician have taken her across the United States and Asia, showcasing her versatility and skill. Notably, she won the first prize at the 2013 University of Minnesota Concerto Competition and the 16th Annual Masters Concerto and Aria Competition of the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra.

Her accomplishments also include prizes from the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition in 2012 and the 2007 Asian Piano Open Competition in Beijing, among others. She was a semi-finalist in the 2014 Dallas International Piano Competition, highlighting her continued prominence in the competitive piano world.One of her notable performances came in 2003 when she performed at the Steinway and Sons 150th Anniversary Celebration and Concert in Beijing’s Forbidden City, marking a significant achievement in her career.

Academically, Prof. Chang earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Minnesota, where she also served as a primary instructor of class piano. Her educational background also includes a bachelor’s and master’s degree from China Conservatory, where she was an assistant professor in 2008. Since 2019, she has been expanding her expertise in the Professional Adults Program at the Dalcroze School of Rockies for three academic years.

Prof. Chang is currently expanding her interdisciplinary expertise by pursuing a Master of Science in Management with a focus on organizational behavior. This new endeavor allows her to integrate knowledge from organizational behavior, psychology, and business into her approach to music education. By exploring intersections of these fields, she aims to enhance the effectiveness of teaching strategies, optimize the management of music classes, and better support the personal and professional development of her students. This innovative blend of disciplines reflects her commitment to advancing music education through a holistic perspective.

Prof. Chang is an active presenter at major music conferences. Prof. Chang has been invited to present in the 2016 and 2020 ISMTA conferences; 2019 NCKP; NSMTA in 2015, 2016, and 2022; and 2023 KRMTA, having shared her insights on topics such as “Off-bench activities in private lessons — internalize music elements by body movement with Dalcroze Eurhythmics activities,” “Acceptance of Fear — A discussion of performance anxiety and common defense mechanisms beyond the conscious control,” and “Integrating Tai Chi principles into piano playing.”

 

She has also directed international music festivals and virtual workshops across various cities in China since 2018, catering to a wide range of participants from young musicians to professional adults.
